English Language Arts — Books

Deepen literary engagement with focused, text-specific daily reading responses.

About This Subject

ELA Books warmups are designed around whole-class and independent reading. Prompts keep students accountable for their reading, deepen comprehension, and promote literary discussion. They work alongside any novel or text a teacher is currently teaching.

How Do Now Warmups Works

Prompts reference specific chapters, themes, characters, or literary techniques from the text being read. Teachers can use pre-built prompts for popular titles or create their own. Students respond in writing and teachers use responses to guide discussion or identify comprehension gaps.

Aligned to National Standards

Common Core State Standards (CCSS) — Reading: Literature

Prompts align to RL standards including theme, character, figurative language, point of view, and text structure.

Benefits for Teachers and Students

  • Holds students accountable for independent reading without lengthy quizzes
  • Builds deeper comprehension of assigned texts through written reflection
  • Surfaces student insights that enrich class discussion
  • Flexible — works with any title or reading level
